In special cases students who are currently enrolled in the Master of Arts (by Research) may apply to upgrade their candidature to the Professional Doctorate. Details of the upgrade procedures and requirements are available from MIECAT. Additionally, candidates are expected to be currently working in the field.

The Professional Doctorate may only be taken part time over four years. Duration of units throughout the Professional Doctorate is fixed - each unit running for the entire year in which it occurs.

| 1 | Research seminars | The materials presented will exemplify the research methods of post positivist
forms of inquiry. These will include phenomenology, experiential inquiry, participatory, intersubjective
research methods and arts based educational research (ABER). A contrast will be made between a
positivist treatment intervention and post-positivist and constructivist inquiries. Each of these
approaches will be presented through examples of completed research related to multi-modal counselling,

| 1 | Doctoral colloquium 1 | Students will present issues related to their research. It is expected that each student
will present material that explores issues related to ethics, credibility and trustworthiness of their
research, multi-modal reporting of the inquiry, questions arising from their methodological procedures
and the meaning of artistic forming in their research. Each student will be additionally required to sit
as chairperson on the assessment board for one other colleague presentation. Contact hours: 15 Assessment: Multi-modal presentation & chair one student presentation |
