General

This course is currently only available in Melbourne, Australia. It is offered for prospective students in order to prepare them for the MIECAT graduate courses of study and for other similar tertiary study programmes. Please read the Study Information page for general student and study matters.

Admission Requirements & Selection Criteria

There are no pre-requisite study requirements for this course, however applicants should generally have significant work experience and a proven interest in the arts. All applicants are initially required to submit a written application to MIECAT for consideration. The written application should consist of:

• A completed Enrolment Application form with all appropriate documents attached (refer form).

Selection of students will be made via attendance and participation in:

• An interview - where the parties will have an opportunity to meet each other.

Content & Structure

This introductory course is offered to candidates who may not have the appropriate requesite skills for direct entry to the Graduate programmes offered by MIECAT. This course of study aims to target those basic skills and experience required by applicants considering further study in this area.

It comprises the following units of study (each 20 hours):

• The Language of Experience.
• Working with Groups.
• Psychological Bases of Counselling.
• Introduction to Counselling Practice.

For students to proceed into the Graduate Diploma all components of the introductory course must be completed to a high standard.
