Representations of the ordinary

All photos were taken by Vivienne Howson & Lucas Packet (as indicated), of works by students undertaking Core 2 of the MIECAT Graduate Diploma programme.

These chairs developed over a period of 10 weeks. Core 2 concerns the ways in which knowing and experiencing of ordinary (i.e. everyday) activities may be represented multi-modally. Students engaged in a series of "art and the ordinary" workshops that included sweeping, gossiping, getting dressed, the experience of touch in the everyday, and setting the table. At the completion of each workshop students were asked to represent the essences of their experiencing on a chair using materials available at MIECAT. Upon completion each student created a five minute multi-modal presentation to the class group, of their experiencing throughout the unit.
