The not yet known

(1999)

All photos were taken by Owen Genat (unless otherwise indicated), of works by Owen Genat, a student of MIECAT.

These works all had their genesis in "Arts as modes of Knowing," a first-year subject under the Graduate Diploma programme run by MIECAT. This unit is concerned with "knowing," both as it relates to art making and the seeing of art works. Part of the final assessment for the unit involves students making a "visual journal" by creating "self-portraits" after each class based on their experience of themselves & others.

The student created the Troll / demon / ugly mask as part of the mask-making process of the unit (during which time the sketch was also done). The Deep indigo chanting mask and the Shadow box were provided as part of the final collection of "self-portraits."

The Medieval mould was created in retrospect, however no mask was ever made from it.
