"Humankind is
a being in search
of meaning"

This site will look much better in a browser that
supports web standards.
It is however, accessible to any browser or Internet device.
This is a list of some of the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), we have experienced in relation to MIECAT, this website and Arts Therapy in general:
What is the experience of your staff / organisation
in the field of Arts Therapy?
All staff working at MIECAT are trained in the experiential
phenomenological arts in therapy and counselling. Our staff have extensive
experience teaching in Australian Universities and continue to practice as
consultants, educators and therapists.
How does your program differ to other Arts Therapy
programmes in Australia?
MIECAT offers a very particular approach to the Creative
Arts Therapy that emphasises the multi-modal nature of human inquiry. We aim
to incorporate all art forms, dance, music, voice, drama, visual arts, writing
and movement into our work. MIECAT takes the view that the client is the creator
of his/her meanings so we avoid attempts to interpret others work.
MIECAT does not begin from definitions of pathology. Rather
we believe in the possibility that constant inquiry into what is meaningful
in our experiencing of being is a lifelong process of active thinking, feeling
and reflection. It is a personal and a socially interactive process.
What employment opportunities are available to the
graduates of your programme?
If students complete the Master
of Arts (by Supervision) and the required hours of professional post training
supervision, they are in a position to apply to PACFA
to be placed on the Register of Counsellors. Students also find work in hospitals,
community health programs, rehabilitation services, education and some develop
successful private practices.
Do all MIECAT students become counsellors?
No. The MIECAT procedures are a form of inquiry into
human meaning that may be applied in a wide range of contexts such as
education, health, counselling or organisational development..
Is MIECAT available to provide consultancy services
to other organisations?
The short answer is "yes," however MIECAT sees each case
of client consultation as unique and will provide advice as to whether and
how our approach is best suited to the needs and demands of the organisation
concerned.
Are students required to be in therapy during the program?
No, although from time to time personal issues might arise
that are important to deal with in a counselling situation. We recommend students
have access to therapists and can refer students should the need arise.
Do you focus on group process or group therapy?
MIECAT is an educational institution that emphasises the
teaching of professional skills. Group process is taught directly and through
our teaching procedures.
How can I read the "PDF" documents that are downloadable
from your site?
To read documents using this format you will need to download
/ install the (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

The logo on your site looks wrong on my browser. The lines of text
overlap each other!
You mean like this?
Your browser is ok, that is how the logo has been designed. We think it encourages
people to re-look rather than assume.
NOTE: If you are viewing this site with a browser font-size setting larger
than default (100%) then the logo will be correspondingly
more difficult to read. This is an unfortunate side-effect of using
Cascading Style Sheet (CSS)
methods to format textual content in a website.
I have viewed your site under various web browsers (Internet Explorer,
Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc) and each time it looks slighty different, why?
This question is related to the previous one. The answer lies with the (in)ability of
internet browsing software to
support web standards. This entire site has been
constructed to be standards compliant and so therefore will
display and be accessable, regardless of the browser software/device used.
There will however be (we hope only slight) differences across
viewing platforms until the companies producing the software involved
comply with the standards set out by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Who designed your site?
Our site was designed by a local Melbourne resident artist who
also happens to be one of our students.
